Kemet Authorized Distributors: A Quality Inspector's Guide to Choosing the Right One

Let me start with an uncomfortable truth: there isn't one 'best' Kemet authorized distributor. I know that's not the answer you want if you're looking for a quick recommendation. But after reviewing incoming Kemet components for a living, I've learned that the right distributor depends on what you're building, how many parts you need, and how much documentation your customer requires.

  • Part is discontinued, on allocation, or just impossible to find? You're in Scenario 3. Use a specialist with verification and documentation.

That said, scenarios overlap. If you're prototyping a product that is heading into high volume, you can start with a catalog distributor and migrate to a franchise distributor later. If you're sourcing a legacy part that still has thousands of units per year in demand, treat it like production volume. The boundaries are here to help you think, not to restrict you.

At least, that's been my experience in component sourcing. I don't expect a startup ordering 50 pieces to need a franchise distributor, and I don't expect a manufacturer ordering reels to use a catalog distributor for every line. Know your situation.

A Final Note from Someone Who Rejects Parts

I don't like the phrase 'trust me.' I'd rather say 'check me.' Go to the Kemet Electronics Corporation website and verify the authorized distributor list for yourself. If your distributor is on that list, it's a strong signal. If not, ask harder questions.
